Sex addiction was first introduced as an illness around 2003-2004. Compulsive sexual behavior is a very real disorder, with an unbelievable estimated 25 million Americans who engage in various forms of sex addiction. It seemed incomprehensible to diagnosis a man or a woman as a sex addict based on their sexual habits, however; excessive sexual desires or behaviors today can be assessed as an illness.
Humorously enough a spouse goes out and cheats, has an affair or perhaps two or three then pleads for help stating he or she is a sex addict which is preposterous, to say the least, but who is willing to argue whether their lying or telling the truth? From a psychological point of view, the cheating spouse is sexually deprived in fact starving for affection.
Therefore seeking to fulfill their lustful desires outside of the marriage. Sexuality in the Black community has not always been talked about; avoidance comes to mind and or having a cavalier approach to real topics of sex and its consequences. Some of us learned sex from our peers or watched TV, everyone is having sex you just don’t talk about it till something major comes up like pregnancy!
Honestly; a black male diagnosed with sex addiction probably never happened, he was just being himself or a man-whore the same would apply for our black women. Black sexuality has been driven by a sense of urgency with the AIDS & HIV crisis, negative sexual addiction in its most illegal forms is on the rise.
Many people today namely African-Americans aren’t educating themselves totally as a result our people are getting infected at an alarming rate. With the time, money and energy spent pursuing casual sex to boost one’s ego or for that quick fix of lustful gratification is astounding! Workplace sex and other Hush-hush rendezvous most likely are entertained with unprotected sex!
The CDC ranks Atlanta 6th in the nation with current HIV infections. The reason for its relevance is Georgia is predominantly African-American, Sexual compulsive behavior in the black community is taboo, perhaps stereotyped to the point of normalcy. To go further, experts are quoted as saying that the HIV rate in Atlanta is as bad as some African countries!
Contrary to myths black sexuality is no different from human sexuality and I find this to be quite silly, we’re all human beings, there is no wild monkey swinging from a chandelier sex going on just love! The correlation between a hypersexual brain & that of an addict’s brain varied based on neural response to different sexual stimulation such as pornography.
With this being said some researcher’s are inclined to believe that porn could be the gateway to sexual addiction & compulsive sexual behavior in the black community because of our ability to mimic what we see! I’m not too sure that this is true only a small percentage of our African -American men watch porn or ever get excited by watching it!
As human beings regardless of your ethnic makeup, educate and protect yourself, & enjoy love to the fullest!
