A 3-wheel buggy is used for off-road walks and for traversing terrains such as uneven paths or woodland tracks. They are also easier to navigate between kerbs and up and down them in comparison to 4-wheel models.
Kath, the editor of MadeForMums reviews, tried one of these three-wheelers on tarmac as well as on various terrains. Check out her review here.
Stability
With four wheels and a central point of gravity that’s balanced by weight of your child’s seat, buggies with four wheels are generally thought to be more stable than triwheelers. But that doesn’t mean a three-wheel buggy isn’t worth considering, since some of these models are designed to handle everything from rough terrain to bustling high streets.
Choose a buggy that has large rear wheels and a lockable wheel on the front. This will make it more comfortable to drive and less likely to break apart when you’re on rough roads. These all-terrain buggies often have pneumatic tyres, too. They are excellent for handling non-paved surfaces and can be used on sandy beaches or woodland tracks.
They’re also great buggies to jog with since they offer excellent stability on rougher terrain and can aid you in staying with your running partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs, and a lot of them have built-in spring suspension so your child will enjoy a smooth ride.
The one thing that makes a 3-wheeled pushchair difficult to maneuver is the large frame, which can make it difficult to squeeze into narrow spaces and tight doors than a four-wheeler. However, some manufacturers have tackled this issue with clever design that lets the wheels flip up when not being used, which reduces their overall size and allows you get through doors without difficulty.
It’s also important to consider whether your buggy is suitable for your baby from birth, or if you’re planning on using it in conjunction with an infant car seat or carry cot. Find out if the buggy comes with a lie-flat feature and if it is compatible with second seat and buggy boards, if you are planning to take your toddler along. Many 3 wheel twin stroller-wheelers can fold flat and be placed upright. This is great when you have limited space in your boot or have limited storage at home. Some will require you to take out the front wheel when folding in order to fit into smaller spaces.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies typically offer better manoeuvrability than pushchairs with four wheels. Many of them have a swivelling wheels on the front that allows you to steer and change direction with one hand. Certain models come with wheels that lock to give you stability on more rough terrain. Certain models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board should you decide to grow your family.
If you’re planning to take your three-wheeled buggy off roads, you should consider selecting a model with air-filled tyres (also called pneumatic tyres) which are able to withstand the toughest terrain. They will require regular pumping but they’ll be more durable than tyres that are solid and are more likely to be puncture-proof. Look for a model with a lockable swivelling front wheel to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers can be heavier than four-wheeled buggies due to the single front wheel. Be sure that the model you select fits inside your car’s boot and can be positioned upright if needed. Some models can fold in one hand and are freestanding when collapsed, which will save space in smaller car boots.
A good three-wheel pushchair can be used on all terrains from busy streets to forest tracks. It’s important to consider the way you’ll use it every day. If you’ll be doing the school run using it, it should be able handle steep slopes and kerbs. If you’ll be running on it, check that it has a lockable swivelling’stretch’ front wheel to keep the ride safe.
Kath, a MFM reviewer, was able to determine that her stroller with three wheels was able to handle urban and walks in the countryside. Kath noted that it could navigate cobbles, rough paths and uneven pavements with ease and felt pleasant when running. It’s also a great option for day trips because it offers plenty of storage space. This includes an enormous, spacious, zip-top covered basket and an extended 50+ UV hood. It can be adapted to meet the needs of a baby from birth, including an infant carry cot or a lying-flat seats. It’s also compatible with the most popular second seats and stroller boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The primary difference between a fabric sling and a modular seats is that the fabric sling is placed in the frame of the buggy as opposed to being positioned on top like a modular seat would. This makes it easier to maintain an ergonomically appropriate position for the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity at just the right height. This leads to a more comfortable push, a lighter curb-pop (you don’t have to exert as much effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and increased stability and balance.
The sling fabrics that are used in these kinds of buggy seats are also extremely durable and easy to clean. These fabrics were designed specifically for sling chairs and are extremely UV-resistant and air-tight. They also have excellent durability and are easy to clean using mild soap and water.
If you’re a jogger or are a fan of off-roading, an all terrain 3 wheeler will be more suitable than a buggy with four wheels. These models are generally larger base, more stable, and use air-filled tyres to allow for smooth and agile moving on uneven ground.

3 wheeler pushchairs-wheel buggies are especially suitable for off-road or all terrain adventures since they offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The large front wheel that is extremely maneuverable allows for smooth and quick movement. The tyres that are typically filled with air and have suspension, offer a comfortable ride on the most difficult trails and roads. The wheels are not as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they would be on four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.
